WHAT IS HVAC?

HVAC stands for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. As a whole HVAC applies to the whole heating and cooling system consisting of the duct work, air filters, humidification controls, and registers.

WHAT IS PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE AND DO I NEED IT?

Preventative maintenance is like insurance for your heating and cooling equipment. Like you regularly change your oil for your car, your equipment needs to be cleaned and tuned up periodically. HOW HEALTHY IS THE AIR INDOORS?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the “the levels of indoor air pollutants are often 2 to 5 times higher than outdoor levels, and in some cases these levels can exceed 100 times that of outdoor levels of the same pollutants.” The best way to improve indoor air quality is to eliminate the source of pollutants. HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CHANGE MY FILTER?

Depending on the type of filter you have, you may want to change it once a month, quarterly, or every 6 months. Refer to our blog post on how to change your filter, or give us a call and we would be happy to do it for you.

HOW LONG DO HVAC SYSTEMS LAST?

HVAC systems last longer with routine maintenance. On average a furnace or air conditioner unit can last 15-20 years.

SHOULD I REPAIR OR REPLACE?

There are many factors that can help you decipher if you should repair or replace your equipment. Depending on the age of your equipment, how often it has been repaired, and if the parts are under warranty can help you make the decision. Also depends on the length of time you plan to stay in your home. If you have questions about any of your products we have installed, please give us a call.

HOW OFTEN DO I CHANGE THE BATTERIES IN MY THERMOSTAT?
Batteries in your thermostat should be changed out once a year.  It is beneficial to change your batteries at the beginning of the heating or cooling season for maximum usage. Don't forget your smoke detector as well!

WHAT CAN I PUT IN MY GARBAGE DISPOSAL?

First, don't put actual garbage in your garbage disposal! No paper products, food wrappers, etc.  Items like this cause build-up in the blades- be extra careful about silverware slipping in. You can flush soft food, non-greasy liquids, ice cubes, and cold water. Avoid fibrous foods, greasy oils, and sticky foods to keep your garbage disposal working properly and efficiently. 

WHAT CAUSES LOW WATER PRESSURE?

This is a common question many homeowners face, especially if the shower pressure is less than desirable.  Low pressure is caused by a multitude of things from malfunctioning shut-off valves, clogged pipes, crimped water lines, or water meter allocation issues. Contact our plumbing department to assess this issue if you are unhappy with your water pressure.

WHEN IS IT TIME TO CALL AN ELECTRICIAN?

Do you reset your circuit breaker often? When you turn on an electronic, do your lights dim in the room? Do your lights flicker frequently?Do you run multiple extension cords to plug in electrical devices? HOW DO I RESET A TRIPPED BREAKER?

When a breaker trips, an electrical circuit is not functioning causing an appliance or fixture to not work. To fix the breaker, follow these steps:

1. Locate the circuit breaker panel (usually in your basement or garage)

2. Find the tripped breaker- should be in the "off" position and display a red or orange color.

3. Reset the breaker by switching it to the "off" position. Then switch the breaker to "on" position-you should hear a click when its properly in place.
