Why go with a Smart Thermostat?
Smart thermostats have been around for quite a while, but not all are created equal. Some "smart" thermostats have clunky back end apps that would make Steve Jobs cry. Ok, they might not be that bad, but they are a far cry from user friendly. There are quite a few things that each smart thermostat has in common though:
1. They save money.
2. They are kinder to the environment.
3. They offer a convenience that many of us never believed was possible. (especially for those with vacation homes)
Set the Temperature from Anywhere
Traditional thermostats still are a fine solution, but only if you are physically around to adjust them. Sure some can be programmed, but a lot of the programming is outdated and much less user friendly than a smart thermostat. Ecobee and Nest thermostats can connect to mobile apps, web browsers and virtual assistants like Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant. You are also able to set programs related to your location. When you are closer to home, the thermostat signals the equipment to adjust temperatures based on your location automatically!
Which Smart Thermostat Saves the Most?
While there are many smart thermostats to choose from, our most popular brands that we install are NEST and ECOBEE. What many people don't know is proper programming can save you up to 20% on your utility bills! Yet, one of those brands stands above:
NEST: An average of 10-12% savings on heating bills and 15% savings on cooling.
ECOBEE: An average of 23% savings on both heating and cooling bills.
As the warmer weather starts to make its way back, it is important to make sure your A/C unit and thermostat is ready. As always, we'd be honored to earn your business but never want you to feel forced into buying a new thermostat or unit before you need. Likewise, we won't make an expensive repair if we think it is best for a replacement.
Give us a call at Triple-O if you have any questions about your furnace. 585-271-1280.
5 Signs Your Furnace Needs Replacement
1. The air flow is poor.
We get this call way too often. Air is still moving through your home but it doesn't feel as strong as it once did. There are many reason this could be happening including issues with your air filter or blockages in your air airducts. If your unit is less than 5 years old, we would recommend calling in a repair. However, if you have an older unit, sometimes the cost of repair isn't worth the headache of keeping an outdated unit running.
2. Moisture and leaks around your unit.
While condensation around a furnace can happen, leakage can be the sign of a major problem. If you notice larger pools of water around your unit, it is time to call a technician right away. Leaking coolant can pose a health risk to your family/pets and excessive water leakage inside of the home can create damage and mold.
3. Thermostat not working properly.
"I'm calling for 68 degrees, but my upstairs is so cold." Best case scenario is that your furnace isn't the problem, but your thermostat is. If other rooms seem to be getting proper air but certain areas are not, it may be worth having a professional check your thermostat. Smart thermostats, like NEST, often provide error messages if something is wrong and are usually able to help you isolate the issue.
4. Your Furnace is 10-15 years old.
The average Furnace unit lasts anywhere from 10 to 15 years. If you have a system older than that - well done! Well, kind of. Often older models focus less on energy efficiency unlike our newest models. Upgrading to a newer system can cut your utility bill up to 15%. If you have an older unit, routine maintenance is recommended (at the very least) so that you aren't caught in the middle of a snow storm without heat!
5. Your Furnace needs frequent repairs.
There is a difference between getting seasonal tune-ups and having to call in repairs every year. If you find yourself paying to have the same system repaired repeatedly, it might be time for a new unit. We are happy to provide repairs, but would rather see you in a situation that is best for you and your family.
While we would be honored to earn your business, we never want you to feel forced into buying a new unit before you need it. Likewise, we won't make an expensive repair if we think it is best for you to replace your unit. This Winter we are offering 0% financing with a FREE estimate.
We look forward to serving you soon! 585-271-1280.

On Friday, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo called Phase 4 a “hallmark.”
“There are no more phases,” he said. “We are all in the final phase of reopening. And that’s great.”
As of Monday, July 20, Phase 4 includes the opening of the following:
- Higher Education
- Pre-K to Grade 12 Schools
- Low-Risk Outdoor Arts & Entertainment
- Low-Risk Indoor Arts & Entertainment
- Media Production
- Professional Sports Competitions With No Fans
A full list of this phase and specifics for each are listed on the ny.gov webpage.
Despite the continued progress regarding re-openings in New York State, there still seems to be some growing concern over just how "safe" these opens are. In fact, some restrictions have gotten even tighter with the banning of alcohol to customers who do not buy food. $1 chips anyone?
As an HVAC company, we take our role very seriously in the re-opening of our country, specifically here in Western NY. Over the past few months, we have serviced Walden Galleria Mall, Destiny USA, and multiple malls in the Greater Rochester Area in preparation for phase 4. From updating air filters to installing virus-killing air purifiers, we've done our part in bringing peace of mind to eager shoppers.
We want to celebrate the business relationships that we've have built over the years and truly congratulate them on doing whatever it takes to keep our community safe.
